Hex, basically the best spell on the Warlock List, so it's pretty much mandatory here. Minor Illusion, while I usually prefer Prestidigitation, I think Minor Illusion fits the character more.Įldritch Blast, as much as I plan on not using it, it's pretty damn good to have should the situation call for it, such as when I am unable to get sneak attack damage.
However, we get this for free by having "Undying" Patron, so I wont really complain. Spare the Dying, not "Literally useless" but I would definitely pick something else, if I had the chance. No Armor, No Weapon, no problem.Īt Warlock level 3, we get 3* Cantrips, 4 spells known, and 2 2nd level spell slots.
This gives us the ability to go undercover only parallelled by Changelings.Īrmor of Shadows is an awesome combo with Pact of the Blade as well, and gives us much more safety when it comes to our "undercover" ability. Mask of Many Faces is what really pulls the entire build together. This also gives us theoretical proficiency on any weapon, including ranged ones. We dont need to visibly carry weapons anywhere, instead, we are able to just pull them out of thin air. While all of the options here are good, I specifically chose the Pact of the Blade because it's somewhat fits our theme of deception. The Great Old One would be an "optimized" choice, for access to short ranged telepathy. Advantage against diseases is a nice touch as well. To me, this is such a powerful spell because it blocks most spells, and it seems to fit so well into a sneaky assassin character. It brings Silence into the Warlock Spell list. It's a pretty well known thing that SCAG's "The Undying" patron is somewhat lackluster, however it is the one I chose for one very specific reason. Making a note that characters rarely ever reach level 20, the 4th level in warlock is another option.ĭespite being only 3 levels, our Warlock features are what really push the flavor of this character. You may ask why we don't grab a 4th level in Warlock to round out our ASIs, and the answer to that is that at character level 20 (R17/W3), we get "Death Strike" which lets us deal insane amounts of damage.
At character level 7 (R4/W3), you take an ASI for +1 dex and +1 wisdom, upgrading both of our modifiers., and then you take the " Alert" feat at character level 11 (R8/W3), after that, you prioritize ASIs in Dexterity and Charisma. Shying away from the more combat oriented skills, we focus our skills based around our high charisma.įor your first level, you'll be taking Rogue, for the skills it provides, as well as the proficiencies.Īfter 3 levels of Warlock, you continue on into Rogue, for the rest of your levels. Insight, from Rogue, with Expertise at Level 1 Persuasion, from Rogue, with Expertise after Level 6 Intimidation, from Rogue, with Expertise after Level 6 Rogue gives us 4, the Urchin background gives us 2, for a total of 6ĭeception, from Rogue, with Expertise at Level 1 The race I decided to choose was the Aasimar, +2 to Charisma is perfect for what we're attempting in a "roleplay oriented character", and the twin resistances seem somewhat fitting for the "Undying" section of our character. This one would play as more of a fun roleplay character, so without further ado, lets get on with it. However "Darkwraith" is definitely a more "aggressive" build, that's also pretty minmaxed.
The characters in and of themselves are to be played somewhat differently, but they do both represent a "Magical Assassin" type character, so they may share a few tactics. Before proceeding, if you have read my "Darkwraith" build guide, then you may notice a few similarities. This build will be set at level 8, Rogue 5/Warlock 3, and has potential to scale up to a maximum of Assassin 17/Undying Warlock 3. the last time I posted a build was about 2 months ago, but I've had an idea crawling around in my head for a while, so I thought that it was time for another build.
